Get up close to wildlife from around the world including fabulous flamingos, playful otters, wonderful white storks and hand feed a wide variety of ducks, geese and swans. And don’t forget to look to the skies to marvel at our visiting wild birds and their magical, aerial displays.
From zip wires to treehouses, the huge adventure playground is a fantastic place for little explorers. Visit the Wild Walk play area, test your balance on the balance beam, take on the swinging steps, and brave the rickety bridge.
There are indoor and outdoor activities, plenty of exploring to do, and delicious food to refuel with once you’ve discovered all there is to see!

General & Ticket Information
- Children under 4 and carers assisting disabled visitors go free.
- Parking is free for visitors. There are two large blue badge holder car parks catering for 25 vehicles outside the entrance.
- The paths around the waterfowl gardens are all paved and accessible with benches at regular intervals as resting points.
- Unfortunately no dogs or pets of any kind are allowed on site, with the exception of Assistance dogs (trained by member organisations of ADUK) on duty, as the wildlife may become distressed. Assistance dogs must be kept on their lead, under control and their harnesses must state "working or assistance dog".
- The nature trail is fully paved. It is not a circular loop. Most of our hides have lower windows to allow for wheelchair users to view the wildlife and bird books to help with identification. P
- Free wheelchairs are available at the centre. There is a mobility scooter available to hire. A £10 non-refundable deposit is required to secure the booking of the mobility scooter. This must be booked in advance - call 01704 891220 or email [email protected].
- The boat tours can accommodate 2 wheelchairs and carers are free to go on the tour. Tours start daily at 11am you are able to book a boat tour in advance at 10.30am for a quieter session. Please email [email protected] for details.
- The following are not allowed at the Wetland Centre; Scooters, bicycles, tricycles, roller skates/blades/wheelies or skateboards, Barbecues, ‘Throwing toys’ such as ball games, Frisbees, nerf guns etc, Wheeled toys e.g. dolls prams or Pond dipping equipment.
- Saving based off walk up rate and potential booking fees.
- Picniq accept all debit cards, Maestro, Visa and Mastercard as methods of payment. There is no credit card charge or booking fee.
- Online bookings are limited to a maximum of 12 visitors.

Martin Mere Wetland Centre is located six miles from Ormskirk and 10 miles from Southport. It is easily accessible by public and private transport.
By car - Situated off the A59, the Centre is signposted from junction 8 on the M61, junction 3 on the M58 and junction 27 on the M6. It is free to park at the Centre.
By rail:
Martin Mere is accessible from 3 mainline stations:
Burscough Bridge train station (L40 0RZ) – Southport Manchester Line
New Lane train station (L40 0PH) – Southport Manchester Line
Burscough Junction train station (L40 5XF) – Liverpool Preston Line via Ormskirk
Hire a bike - The Centre is situated on two cycle routes in West Lancashire: the New Lane Circuit (approximately 23.5 miles) and A Grand Tour of West Lancashire (approximately 37.8 miles).
There are 8 Sheffield bike loops (for 16 bikes) at the centre.

By coach - The centre has parking facilities for large coaches. Parking is free for coaches bringing visitors to the centre.
By air - Manchester Airport is just an hour drive from the Martin Mere Wetland Centre and Manchester Airport Train Station is on the Southport to Manchester train line, providing a direct route to New Lane Train Station, 0.8 miles from the Centre
Open 7 days a week, 364 days a year - opening times vary throughout the year, to make the most of the seasonal wildlife:
Winter opening times (30 Oct 2023 to 28 March 2024) - The centre is open 9:30am to 4:30pm (last entry 3:30pm).
Summer opening times (29 March 2024 - 28 Oct 2024) - The centre is open 9:30am to 6pm (last entry 5pm). The last admission is one hour before closing.
