The King's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse
Edinburgh
From 28th February - 7th September 2025, the Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography exhibition will be on display. Milestone photographic portraits of the Royal Family will be featured in this exhibition charting the evolution of royal portrait photography from the 1920s to the present day, bringing together more than 90 photographic prints, proofs and documents from the Royal Collection and the Royal Archives.
The King's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse was built in the shell of the former Holyrood Free Church and Duchess of Gordon's School at the entrance to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the 1840s, and is home to changing exhibitions. The 1999 redesign complements the original 19th-century architecture, elements of which were incorporated into the new spaces.
Step into The King’s Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and discover stunning exhibitions from the Royal Collection. Located right next to the Palace entrance, this elegant gallery showcases a changing line-up of treasures, paintings, photographs, and royal artifacts, often by world-famous artists like Warhol and Beaton. Current exhibitions include “Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography,” featuring striking royal images from the 1920's to today.
Your ticket includes a free multimedia guide and full access to this beautifully restored building. The gallery is wheelchair accessible, and there’s a gift shop for royal-themed souvenirs. Combine your visit with entry to the Palace and gardens for a great day out in Edinburgh’s historic heart.
