Edinburgh Zoo is a gateway to discovering the beauty of the natural world, where you can experience nature and learn all about the challenges these species face and how they are working as a wildlife conservation charity.
When you arrive, grab a park map and set off on an adventure with the whole family! There’s so much to see and do, so everyone is guaranteed an incredible day out with amazing animal encounters and lots of educational fun. After a long day of exploring the wild, head to one of the two restaurants for a meal fit for the king of the jungle! There are also several kiosks dotted around for snacks on-the-go.
No matter the weather, Edinburgh Zoo is the ultimate family adventure with something for everyone. Don’t miss a stop at one of the kids play areas where they can run wild! Plus, the gift shop is where you’ll find a selection of amazing gifts and souvenirs.
Keep an eye out for special events taking place where little ones can get involved with the zoo’s incredible conservation work with hands-on experiences and learning opportunities.

Edinburgh Zoo can be easily accessed via public transport with high frequency bus services from Edinburgh city centre. There are two bus stops outside the front entrance. Lothian 12, 26 and, 31 services all stop outside and can be picked up near both Haymarket and Waverley Station or in the city centre. The 100 Airlink Service also stops regularly outside our front entrance and operates between Edinburgh Airport and the city centre.
The following Lothian services pass the zoo every few minutes:
Service 12: Portobello – Newington – Tollcross – Haymarket – Zoo – Gyle Centre
Service 26: Seton Sands/Tranent – Portobello – City Centre – Zoo – Clerwood
Service 31: Bonnyrigg – City Centre – Zoo – East Craigs
Opening Times:
January – February: 10am to 4pm
March: 10am to 5pm
April – September: 10am to 6pm
October: 10am to 5pm
November – December: 10am to 4pm
Christmas Day: Closed
Last entry to the park is one hour before closing time.
