The British Music Experience to Mark 50 Years of Rock Against Racism with New Temporary Exhibition.
In 1976, a group of activists wrote an impassioned letter to the NME in response to Eric Clapton’s public support for Enoch Powell and his anti-immigration rhetoric.
“We want to organise a rank-and-file movement against the racist poison in rock music” they declared, calling on musicians and music fans to unite against racism, reaffirming the power of music as a force for social change.
The response was immediate. Hundreds of people responded, providing the momentum that would see Rock Against Racism develop into a nationwide movement. Between 1976 and 1982, Rock Against Racism activists organised national carnivals and tours, alongside local gigs, clubs and events across the country, bringing together musicians and audiences from diverse backgrounds in opposition to racism.

This interactive museum celebrates the stars and sounds that defined generations - from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Freddie Mercury to The Spice Girls, Amy Winehouse, and Adele.
With costumes, instruments, performances, and memorabilia from over 70 years of pop, rock, and soul, it’s an inspiring experience for music lovers of all ages. Explore galleries filled with holograms, audio-visual displays, and hands-on exhibits that bring British music to life.

The British Music Experience is based in the Cunard Building, Pier Head, Liverpool Waterfront. The main entrance is located on Canada Boulevard, on the river side of the building, opposite the Mersey Ferry terminal.
