878 AD is a major new visitor attraction recreating a key moment in Winchester’s Anglo-Saxon history, brought to life through the world of the video game franchise Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, cinematic audio-visual projection and live interactive performance.
This unique immersive experience will take you back to a pivotal point, not only in the history of the city, but in the history of England as an emerging, unified nation: the defeat of the Vikings by Alfred the Great at the Battle of Edington in May 878.

- Tickets are for DAY ENTRY.
- Under 5s entry is free, but you do need a ticket.
- 878 AD is fully accessible for wheelchairs. It is on one floor in The Brooks Shopping Centre and can be accessed either by a ramp from street level or by lift.
- The attraction includes multi-sensory elements, such as sounds. At times, the lighting is dimmed and there is flashing imagery
- Identifiable assistance dogs are welcome.
- You can download 878 AD: Winchester Revealed during your visit to the attraction. You will be given a unique code to unlock content when you check in.
- 878 AD: Winchester Revealed is best enjoyed with sound on, you may wish to bring headphones with you.

The second part of the experience is a self-guided augmented reality tour throughout the city of Winchester.
Winchester has fantastic transport links to and from London, Reading, Basingstoke, Southampton and many other major destinations.
By car:
Winchester is accessible via major road routes including the M3, A34 and A31.
Parking:
Winchester Park and Ride has multiple parking sites across the city, with a stop just a short walking distance to the venue. Find out more at Winchester City Council’s website. Parking is available in The Brooks Shopping Centre’s car park and at car parks throughout the city. Please note that The Brooks Shopping Centre car park is open until 6:30pm Monday – Saturday and 5:30pm on Sundays.
By train:
Winchester is on the South West main line, with regular, direct trains to and from London Waterloo and major cities across the South and Midlands. It is approximately a 15 minute walk from the railway station to The Brooks Shopping Centre. Buses run regularly from the railway station to the city centre.
By bus:
Winchester is served by bus services from Stagecoach, Bluestar and National Express. The nearest stop to The Brooks Shopping Centre is Siverhill Road, alternatively, the main bus station is a short walk away.
